Several months ago I saw a correspondent from Iraq on NBC news. When asked what it's like to live there she said that the bombs and gunfire are like the weather, where people go about as much of their daily business as the violence will allow. That made me imagine what it might be like for someone from here to get transplanted over there. Not in the protected green zone, but out in the city streets where normal people have to stay. I started this painting shortly after but couldn't finish it until now because of various disruptions.
